Braces Do More Than Straighten Your Teeth
Crooked teeth can cause increased cavities, affect the jaw, speech, and cause TMDs (temporomandibular disorders).
There are many advantages to wearing braces, like…
- Fix an overbite, underbite, or open bite
- Close spacing between teeth
- Aligning crooked teeth
- Relieve crowding
- Help correct some speech issues
However, orthodontic braces do more than straighten your teeth. A perfect smile makes you feel more attractive and confident for a lifetime!
Early Interceptive Treatment
A child’s teeth and jaw still grow and develop between ages 7 to 14. The purpose of Early Orthodontic Treatment or Interceptive Treatment is to correct small problems before they become big problems.
Dr. Major recommends a check-up by age 7 to give parents a sense of what to expect in the future. Not all young children will benefit from early treatment, but knowing what to expect gives you peace of mind.
If recommended, the benefits of Early Orthodontic Treatment can include preventing future extractions, avoid jaw surgery, and reduce the risk of fracturing or excess tooth wear. In addition to preventing problems, the goal of early treatment is to spend less time wearing braces as a teenager.
Is your child 7 or older and hasn’t visited an orthodontist? Book a consult with Dr. Major today!

Adolescent Orthodontic Treatment
Orthodontic treatment for teens builds self-esteem. The best time to take care of proper alignment is after adult teeth have erupted and the jaw is still growing. In other words, the teenage years.
Your teen may feel more comfortable wearing braces when their friends are doing the same. We help them personalize their style with colored ties on their braces and colored elastics. Going through braces at the same time as their friends helps them connect with others, and helps motivate your teen to commit to the braces process including eating brace-friendly foods, wearing elastics, and keeping up with oral hygiene.
The goal of braces for teens is to close any remaining open spaces, correct crowding, fix crooked teeth, and relieve any remaining bite issues. Adolescent Orthodontic Treatment gives your child a smile that will last a lifetime.
Adult Braces
Adult orthodontics is more common than you think. Did you know that 25% of orthodontic patients are adults? Many adults did not have the opportunity for braces as a kid. But it’s never too late to have the beautiful smile and the healthy mouth you deserve.
Advances in Adult Orthodontic Treatments mean braces are more comfortable and less noticeable. We offer treatment options designed to minimize the appearance of the braces to fit your lifestyle better.
You can select from traditional metal braces, clear ceramic braces, or Invisalign®. Adults generally prefer them but ask Dr. Major to take the Invisalign® assessment to see if they are right for you.

Types of Orthodontic Braces
There are new options when it comes to orthodontics. Depending on your age and other factors, Dr. Major will recommend one of these braces.
Traditional Metal Braces – Traditional braces use brackets and wire attached to the teeth to alter their position gradually.
Ceramic Braces – This style also uses wire, but the brackets are ceramic. They are naturally colored, making them much less noticeable.
Lingual Braces – Lingual braces attach to the inside of the teeth so that they are unnoticeable from the outside.
Invisalign® – Invisalign® does not involve brackets and wires. It uses custom-fitted, clear plastic aligners worn over the teeth. It may require up to 30 different aligners to achieve the desired result.
